    Welcome Dave's Gas R/C Homepage

Now on it's own domain, Dave's Gas R/C no longer has to be limited by the the restraints placed on Geocities Free hosting accounts. The site is in the process of being updated with new content, however it's not going to happen overnight. After all, it's not like I'm getting paid for this. :-P

    My RC10GT!

    Small Update
Haven't posted anything in a while so here's a quick little update.

I picked up an RC18B team kit a while ago and it's a cool little buggy. Looking around the web I've seen a lot of people are putting brushless motors into these things to make them faster. I only have the stock motor that come with it and I have to say it's pretty quick as is! I don't really see the need to put a brushless in unless maybe you were racing.

While it is a cool little car I did have a couple complaints about it. The first is the diffs; they slip. The problem is the output shafts are made of plastic instead of some sort of metal like on the 10th scale buggies. Since they're plastic you can't tighten the screw that holds the diff together too far else you'll strip the hole. Even if you manage not to strip the hole, since the halves are plastic they flex and thus the diff rings do not have good preasure on the diff balls. This slipping sucks because when you hit the throttle, rather than the buggy taking off really quick you just hear he whine of the motor and the diffs slipping. I did manage to remedy this situation though. I went to the extreme and used some CA+ to glue the rear diff together. I no longer have the slipping problem! The buggy takes off really quick now and I can even get the rear tires to spin with just the stock motor. I was also pleasently suprised that the mod didn't really seem to affect the stearing. The buggy turns just as quick as it did before I glued the diff.

The second problem I have is with the steering system. The servo saver gives too easily and thus there is exessive play/slop in the steering. the problem this causes is that the steering will not center consistently as you pull out of corners. I've managed to rememdy this a bit too with a little glue. The servo saver has this little plastic C ring that flexes to absorb the shock of impacts. It floats in between two plasting pieces which link the servo to the steering system. With the glue I secured half of this ring in place thus limiting its flex. This improved the steering systems ability to center dramatically.

Overall, once you fix the two little issues with the RC18's they're fun little car to play around with.

    New Movie Added
Well I have finally got around to putting the first video on the site. This video contains some clips, strung together, of my brother's Team Associated Monster GT. If you're looking at buying a Monster GT this should give you a good idea of what to expect. Note that this is the version of the Monster GT with the smaller engine. The current version of the Monster GT has a bigger engine with more power so you can probably expect even bigger jumps and such.

Head on over to the Movies page and check it out.

    Dave's Gas R/C Officially Relaunched!
Well it's been a long time since I've really done any work on this site, but now I have some much better hosting for the site so it's time to get to work! My main reason for getting the hosting was to host a photo gallery for personal photos and maybe put up some movies too, but I figured while I was at it I ought to move the R/C site to it aswell.

So far there hasn't been too many changes made. The most major change is probably the new news posting system the site has. Since my hosting supports PHP, I've been able to install a nice news manager that allows me to easily post new updates without actually editing any html pages. The system also allows posting comments so anyone reading these updates will ba able to comment on them.
As far as the rest of the site is concerned; mostly there has just been some updating of the content of the existing pages, replacing some of the photos with higher resolution, better quality ones, things like that. These sections will likely get overhauled in the future.

I also added a movies section to the site and thanks to this new hosting, I'll actually be able to put up large, high quality videos. Currently you will not find any videos on that page however. I was going to take the video clips I had made before and encode higher quality versions of them then post those on the site, but then I realized they kinda sucked. tongue They were great back in the day when web video was new and anything you could get was good, but they don't really stand up to todays standards.
I'll put up some new clips soon using what footage I have. None of it was recorded for the intent of going on the site so don't expect too much. I do have some footage of my brother's Associated Monster GT doing some fairly large jumps so there ought to be at least one thing good to see in there. Unfortunately, since it's that time of year again, where the weather gets cold, there won't be any brand new clips for a while.

Well that's the news for now. I'll be working on the site on and off over the next few weeks so expect updates then. Come back again soon.
